This deer picked a fight with a plastic model he thought was a real-life rival. The animal attacked after spotting the fake deer apparently trespassing on its territory in Western Montana. The buck fronted up the plastic model, and when the model showed no sign of stepping down, the deer launched at it with his impressive antlers, ramming it until it lay in bits, its head knocked off

A duck had a very lucky escape when a sneaky predator made a swipe for it. The lynx had spotted a tasty duck bobbing about on a pond and, after creeping up through long grass, made a leap with claws outstretched. But the duck made a life-saving flap for freedom as the lynx's paws narrowly missed its prize. Photographer Anthony C Gibson captured the dramatic scene in Alaska's Denali National Park.

A cow stumbles upon a group of crocodiles. The animal appeared to walk directly into the jaws of death after wandering away from its herd in search of some tasty vegetation. But it appeared to have a lucky escape from the croc species, known as caimans, and was left alone. Photographer Robert Mooney snapped the shot in the Pantanal wetlands, Brazil. The 50-year-old, from Arlington, in Virginia, America, was amazed the cow dared to stroll among the crocs with such apparent ease.

This enabled us to give them sensory enrichment through smell and colour.'
